PREPARATORY WORK FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MIREG PROJECT ACTIVITIES ONGOING IN THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA

Dar Es Salaam - For the preparation of the upcoming migrants’ registration activities under Migrants Registration Project (MIREG) in 11 regions of the United Republic of Tanzania continued during the month of July 2020.

A team from the immigration department and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nation (UN) Migration Agency conducted a field mission to Mara region, Northern part of the country on the Lake Victoria from 6 to 10 July 2020.

Visited districts in Mara region included: Bunda, Serengeti, Tarime, Rorya, Butiama, Musoma Town Council and Musoma Rural.

The team has also paid a courtesy calls to Regional and district authorities in order to introduce the project scope and activities as well as agreeing on the modalities on the implementation of awareness raising campaign activities that will be carried out before prior to the registration exercise.

The project, which is funded by the British Government’s through the DFID, aims at enhancing Government’s capacity to address irregular migration and promotes humane, orderly and rights-based migration and border management by contributing to government efforts in national immigration status determination processes in Tanzania. The implementation of the project is informed by the Comprehensive Migration Management Strategy in Tanzania II, known as COMMIST II. "Glad to see this tangible progress made on the implementation of this very important project, MIREG in the eleven region of the country", said Dr Qasim Sufi, the IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) to the United Republic of Tanzania.
