THE REVOLUTIONARY GOVERNMENT OF ZANZIBAR CELEBRATED THE 56TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REVOLUTION IN ZANZIBAR ON 12 JANUARY 2020
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations (UN) Migration Agency was one of the UN Agencies that joined the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in commemorating its 56th Anniversary of their Revolution in Zanzibar on 12 January 2020. IOM was represented by the IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) to the United republic of Tanzania, Dr Qasim Sufi. Other Heads of UN Agencies who participated in the event were: Mr Michael Dunford, WFP Representative; Ms. Christine Musisi, UNDP Representative; Ms. Jacqueline Mahon, UNFPA Representative; and Mr. Tirso Dos Santos, ILO Representative.
The commemorations of 56th Anniversary of the Revolution took place at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.
The Guest of Honor was H.E. Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, the President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
The event was attended by: H.E. Dr John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, the President; H.E. Ms. Samia Suluhu, the Vice President; H.E. Mr. Kassim Majaliwa, the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ministers and other High Officials of the Revolutionary Governments of Zanzibar and the United Republic of Tanzania, Diplomatic Community, Civil Society, General Public and Media.
IOM, the UN Migration Agency is one of the ten (10) UN agencies that are physically present and operate in Zanzibar together with UN RCO, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, FAO, UNESCO, UN WOMEN, and UNAIDS.
In collaboration with three (3) other UN agencies namely UNFPA, UNICEF, UN WOMEN, and the Zanzibar Government Authorities are working in strengthening the systems to combat Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) that benefits the community under the UN Zanzibar Joint Programme (ZJP).
