MOSHI - IOM CARRY OUT SERIES OF TRAININGs FOR FRONT-LINE IMMIGRATION OFFICERS ON THE BORDER WITH MOZAMBIQUE

IOM Tanzania in partnership with the Tanzania Immigration Service Department (TISD) continued with a series of trainings for Immigration Officers of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT) stationed on the border with Mozambique.

The ongoing training brought together 25 frontline Immigration Officers from southern regions of the country, namely Mtwara, Ruvuma and Lindi.

The training is taking place at the Tanzania Regional Immigration Training Academy (TRITA) in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, from 18 to 22 July 2022.

The training is part of the IOM project "Strengthening Community Engagement and Policing and Integrated Border Management" funded by the Germany Federal Foreign Office.

In the opening remarks of the training, Commissioner Abdallah Towo, the TRITA Commandant, iterated that “these series of trainings will help address long-term operational challenges and significantly improve performance.

Additionally, ” Commissioner Towo went on to thank IOM for facilitating of this training starting with a Training Needs Assessment, followed by a training of Senior Officers and now rolling-out to frontline Immigration Officers.

The training is covering various areas including Transnational Organized Crime, Tanzanian and International Migration Law, Intelligence, protection of vulnerable migrants, and investigation, among other areas.

The objective of the series of these trainings is to refresh the immigration officials with the right-based approach in border management, define the roles of community on border management and border community engagement, enhance their technical capacity in border management at border points.

IOM remains committed in ensuring that Immigration Officers have the ability to address migration comprehensively while ensuring and safe, orderly and dignified migration.
