The United States Resettlement Admission Programme (USRAP) conducted training for Movement Operations Staff in IOM Tanzania from 24 July to 01 August 2019.

The training that took place in IOM offices in Kasulu and Dar Es Salaam focused on three very important thematic areas within the IOM movement operations i.e.:

  2. advanced communication in the workplace, and
  3. working with people with disability.

A total of 23 IOM Tanzania Movement Operations Staff benefitted from the training i.e. 12 staff in Kasulu from 24 to 25 July and 11 staff in Dar Es Salaam from 31 July to 01 August 2019 respectively.

The training session on prevention of fraud and malfeasance is based on the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration’s (BPRM) Malfeasance Avoidance Guidelines. The aim of this training component was to:

  1. support shared moral values and ethical work environment,
  2. how to reduce chances for fraud to occur,
  3. instruct IOM colleagues on the appropriate ways to report and respond to fraud cases if it does occur.

The aim of training session on advanced communication techniques in the workplace was to:

  1. provide the participants with techniques on how to successfully negotiate within workplace,
  2. improve their skills on speaking in public,
  3. strengthen their knowledge and skills on conflict resolutions at workplace.

The aim of the training session on working with persons with disabilities was to:

  1. make the trainees understand the meaning of differently abled persons,
  2. take into account disabilities when planning for office space, program, process and services the organization offer,
  3. identify areas that require improvement in order to better serve individuals with disabilities.

The training was conducted by Ms. Norah Arunga, the IOM USRAP Programme Support and Administrative Assistant in IOM Kenya.

“Staff training is one of the top priorities of the IOM Mission in Tanzania” said Dr Qasim Sufi, the IOM Chief Mission in Tanzania in his opening remarks of the training in Dar Es Salaam. The three training thematic areas covered by the training are of paramount importance for USRAP which is currently the IOM largest USRAP in the world”, he added.
