IOM Donates ICT Equipment To The Office Of The Chief Government Statistician (OCGS) In Zanzibar, 16 September 2020

Zanzibar – 16 September 2020

Under the project "Africa Regional Migration Program Phase X East and Horn of Africa", funded by the State Department Bureau of Population Refugees and Migration (BPRM), the United States of America (USA), IOM donated ICT equipment worth USD 20,000 to the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS), in Zanzibar, 16 September 2020, the United Republic of Tanzania.

The donation was made to support reporting and to strengthen data management across the country including Migration data.

The donated equipment for OCGS in Zanzibar includes:

  • 2 HP EliteBook laptops,
  • 2 Docking stations and the relevant accessories,
  • 2 Monitors,
  • 1 Colour printer,
  • 3 Microsoft Office 365,
  • 1 Video conferencing hardware,
  • 1 Video conferencing (TV Screen),
  • 1 Video cable.

The donation of ICT equipment is among the project deliverables aimed at strengthening the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS), in Zanzibar's capacity to independently undertake Migration data collection, research and learning to inform on policy development.

The Chief Government Statistician (CGS), Mrs. Mayasa Mahfoudh Mwinyi, received the donation on behalf of OCGS from Dr. Qasim Sufi, the IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) in the United Republic of Tanzania in Zanzibar.

In her remarks during the event, the Chief Government Statistician (CGS), Mrs. Mayasa Mahfoudh Mwinyi, thanked IOM, the United Nations (UN) Migration Agency for its support to the OCGS to achieve its goals and endeavors and requested for support to develop Migration Profile for Zanzibar.

The IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) to the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Qasim Sufi who handed over the ITC equipment to the Chief Government Statistician (CGS) said, "to monitor the degree of achievement towards the 17 Global Goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the international community, we need reliable and timely data to show where we are making progress and where are falling behind including data on Migrants and Migration". "The ultimate goal is to support the OCGS to do just that", he added.
