IOM Donates ICT Equipment To The National Bureau Of Statistics (NBS) In Dodoma 11 September 2020
Dodoma – 11 September 2020
Under the project Africa Regional Migration Program Phase X East and Horn of Africa funded by the State Department Bureau of Population Refugees and Migration (BPRM), the United States of America (USA), IOM donated ICT equipment worth USD 20,000 to the National Statistical Offices in both Mainland and Zanzibar, the United Republic of Tanzania.
The donation was made to support reporting and to strengthen data management across the country including Migration data. The donated equipment include: 4 HP elite book 840 laptops, 4 docking stations and accessories, 4 HP 27 slim monitors, 1 heavy duty photocopy printer, and 4 Microsoft Office 365. The donation of ICT equipment is among the project deliverables aimed at strengthening of National Bureaux of Statistics' (NBS) capacity to independently undertake Migration data collection, research and learning to inform on policy development.
The Statistician General, Dr. Albina Chuwa, received the donation on behalf of NBS from Dr. Qasim Sufi, the IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) in the United Republic of Tanzania in Dodoma. In her remarks during the event, the Statistician General, Dr Albina Chuwa thanked IOM, the United Nations (UN) Migration Agency and other UN Agencies i.e. UNFPA, and UNHCR for their support to the NBS to achieve its goals and endeavors.
The IOM Chief of Mission (CoM) to the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Qasim Sufi who handed over the ITC equipment to the General Statician said, "to monitor the degree of achievement towards the 17 Global Goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the international community, we need reliable and timely data to show where we are making progress and where are falling behind including data on Migrants and Migration". "The ultimate goal is to support the Government through the National Bureau of Statics (NBS) to do just that", he added.
